On March 8, Crawford & Company attended the inaugural U.S. Insurance Awards presented by Business Insurance. The event, held in New York, gathered more than 400 industry professionals to celebrate the collective accomplishments of the industry.
Crawford was proud to serve as prime sponsor of the event, and as the sponsor of the Insurance Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame recognizes industry pioneers who have had a significant impact on the industry. Professionals recognized with the Crain Lifetime Achievement Award are inducted into the Hall of Fame.
At the gala event, the Crain Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Maurice R. Greenberg, chairman and CEO, C.V. Starr & Co. Inc. for his significant contributions to the industry throughout his career.
Crain CEO Adam Potter shared that the awards program was created to help address the industry’s talent crisis by funding the Business Insurance Scholarship Endowment. The endowment will provide scholarships, grants and programming at universities without risk management degree programs, including historically black colleges and universities.
The awards, that recognize that major achievements are seldom the work of individuals working in isolation, honor teams of professionals working on specific projects in the commercial insurance and risk management sector.
Crawford was recognized as finalists in two categories: InsurTech Initiative of the Year and TPA Property / Casualty Team of the Year.
Our InsurTech nomination featured Crawford’s acquisition and integration of WeGoLook®, an Oklahoma City-based inspections company. WeGoLook’s platform reduces the cost of having traditional insurance adjusters in the field. Utilizing the on-demand model, WeGoLook sends rigorously vetted “Lookers®”—a force more than 40,000 strong—to perform inspections, who then send data back to centralized adjusters. The on-demand field inspector model allows adjusters to be wide-reaching and prolific: using WeGoLook’s technology, a desk adjuster who could formerly handle eight property claims per day can now tackle that same amount in one hour. Additionally, with the Looker network being so easily deployed, customers get the benefit of quick availability and willing service.
Our TPA Property/Casualty Team of the Year nomination recognized Crawford’s catastrophe response team. 2017’s hurricane season proved to be a monumental challenge for the insurance and claims management industry; the dedicated team of Crawford Catastrophe (CAT) Services was no exception. Led by VP of Operations, Bev Trice, Crawford’s CAT adjusters and their support staff worked around the clock to respond to policyholder claims with urgency and care.
In addition to those on the front line, the centralized operations teams—those responsible for all administrative aspects of claims—took part in the colossal effort to meet what Trice calls, “the largest supply-demand event [she’s] ever seen” over the course of her 35+ year career. The effort involved both domestic and international support: Crawford’s Garden City Group (GCG) in Dublin, Ohio and Global Business Service Center (GBSC) in Manila, Philippines logged extra hours to ensure 24-hour coverage of the CAT team’s evolving needs.
The awards gala was an exciting industry event and Crawford congratulates all of the finalists and winners in each of the award categories. We look forward to participating in the event again in 2019.
