Crawford & Company® Netherlands has surpassed its fundraising best by almost 40 percent after its beach volleyball tournament raised more than €43,000 ($47,000 U.S.) for charity.
The 2016 annual Crawford® ALS Indoor Beach Volleyball Tournament involved 52 teams from Crawford® and all sectors of the insurance industry.
The event raises much-needed funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease or Motor Neuron Disease (MND), which is a fatal nerve and muscle condition that affects nearly 1,500 people annually in the Netherlands alone.
“Each year, about 500 people die from the condition, and another 500 patients are diagnosed,” said Rianne Baumann, Crawford Netherlands’ director of Liability and CAR, who organises the annual competition.
The five-member teams that battled it out during 10-minute games were comprised of hundreds of industry professionals that include brokers, insurance companies, law firms, adjusters, and repair companies. The 52 teams, who played for three hours, were divided into classes such as “Pro” and “Future” and also included those who play less often and were part of the “Fun Pool.”
The “Pro” class victors hailed from Triton, with Crawford and Dolmans teams taking the two other rostrum places. In the “Future” group, Cunningham Lindsey took first prize; while the “Fun Pool” victors were CNA Insurance, followed by Meijers and Belfor in second and third, respectively.
Since 2013, Crawford & Company Netherlands has organised the tournament, which takes place at the Strandpaviljoen, Aalsmeer.
“Each team had to raise a minimum of €150, so to reach more than €43,000 was a really great achievement,” said Rianne. “It was a great experience for everyone involved, and we’re delighted to have raised so much for this worthy cause,” she said. “I would like to personally thank the 52 teams from around the industry who came to the event, and we look forward to repeating its success in 2017.”
