Representatives from Broadspire® recently attended the 2016 Disability Management Employer Coalition (DMEC) Annual Conference in New Orleans where we had the opportunity to participate in the tradeshow and network with a variety of risk managers in the absence and disability field. Our booth was among the best, as was our team of experts. The annual DMEC conference is one of our “must do” annual tradeshows due to the high volume of current and potential clients who attend.
During the conference, our very own chief medical officer, Dr. Jacobo Lazarovic, and Kelly Diepa, vice president of disability and leave operations, spoke on the topic of “Impact of Opioid Abuse in the Workplace.” The discussion included information on the opioid epidemic, which has resulted in a nine-fold increase in drug-related morbidity and mortality. It also addressed the pain dilemma and provided tips on effectively managing the epidemic in a way that helps contain medical costs and indemnity expenses; and maximize the functionality, quality of life, and return-to-work capacity of injured and ill workers.
By the end of the conference, we had gathered numerous potential leads and hope to realize new business opportunities as we move forward. Since we re-entered the absence and disability space two years ago, we have grown tremendously through the efforts of our outstanding team and we expect next year’s conference to be equally as successful.
