Tropical Storm Arthur continues to gain strength in its slow north-northeastern crawl off the Florida coast and is expected to become a hurricane by Thursday, July 3, if not sooner. With winds already reaching 60 mph, the exact track of the storm remains uncertain, but hurricane watches have been issued for parts of eastern North Carolina, including most of the Outer Banks. Tropical storm warnings remain in effect for coastal and parts of eastern North Carolina, including Wilmington; as well as for Myrtle Beach, S.C.; but have been dropped for the Florida Atlantic coast. Peak impacts in the Carolinas are expected for Thursday into Friday, July 4. Forecasters predict possible impacts in Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Island by late Friday or early Saturday, July 5.
