Crawford’s 2013 U.K. Storm Surge Response (INFOGRAPHIC)

When bad weather strikes, Crawford has plans in place to respond promptly with skill and in-depth resources. During the biggest tidal surge in the United Kingdom for 60 years, thousands of households were evacuated as seawater flooded coastal areas of eastern England and North Wales, and thousands of homes lost power in Scotland, England and Northern Ireland. The Environment Agency issued more than 60 severe flood warnings across the U.K.

With North Wales and eastern England affected the most, Crawford teams visited properties, homeowners and business in Rhyl, Lowestoft, Hull, Great Yarmouth and Boston to help begin the process of repairing buildings affected by encroaching seawater and high tide levels. Crawford’s 24/7 out-of-hours team, ClaimsAlert, handled a 400 percent increase in calls on December 5, 2013. The following infographic presents some key facts on our response to the storms. On the right is a color-coded indication of surge intensity for the U.K., with darker areas highlighting the areas of greater storm strength.
